Dunyapur was made a Union Committee in 1924 and was raised to the status of a Town Committee in 1961. In 1991, when Lodhran was accorded the status of district, Dunyapur was made a Tehsil. After the implementation of Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001, it was given the status of TMA.
